Infant Enrolment

Enrolment Update for Pupils Starting School in August 2019

Children who attain the age of five years between 1 March 2019 and 28 February 2020 should be registered for education on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th January 2019. Pupils whose surname begins with the initials A to L should be registered on Wednesday 9th January 2019 and pupils whose surname begins with the initials M to Z should be registered on Thursday 10th January 2019.

Parents must register their children in the local primary school, on one of the above dates as appropriate, between the hours of 1.30 pm and 3.00 pm. You must register your child in the catchment school even if you are considering a placing request for another school. This includes Primary 1 Gaelic Medium Education at Whinhill Primary School.

The following documents are required for registration:-

•your child’s birth certificate
•your Council Tax demand notice for the current year, in your name
•a utility bill (i.e. gas, electricity, landline telephone or broadband) in your name

and dated within the last 6 months.

Enrolment for children starting in Primary 1 takes place in January. This will be advertised in the local  press and on the Inverclyde Council website, giving the dates for enrolment. We also send notices to local pre-5 establishments and include on newsletters/website.
New entrants are invited to visit school during the summer term. This visit takes the form of an information afternoon where parents/carers are given information about the organisation and the curriculum offered within the school. This gives parents an opportunity to ask questions while the children are visiting the classroom .
The opportunity is always available for all prospective parents to visit and be shown round the school before any final decision is made.

First register at your local school where you will receive information about making a Placing Request. Parents who have been offered or are seeking a place for their child in the school should telephone and make an appointment to see the Head Teacher and to visit the school.
